About

"A blend of jazz and popular music, combining lyrical improvisation with refined compositions."
(WDR Lokalzeit Bergisches Land)

The Lýriska Trio from North Rhine-Westphalia consists of Marian Fricke on piano, Luca Loeb on electric bass, and Matthias Knorr on drums as the newest member. Inspired by artists such as the Tingvall Trio, E.S.T. and GoGo Penguin, their original compositions speak directly to the heart and stay with the listener.

"Dynamic piano playing, powerful bass riffs and driving rhythms – the Lýriska Trio brings together a group of outstanding young musicians. (…) Their signature sound lies in expressive original compositions, energized through improvisation. Elements of rock and funk flow naturally throughout (…) The atmospheric density of the trio’s sound would make for outstanding film scores."
(Westdeutsche Zeitung)

The trio has performed at venues including Jazzschmiede (Düsseldorf), Domicil (Dortmund), Café Ada (Wuppertal), Alte Drahtzieherei (Wipperfürth) and LOCH (Wuppertal).

The Band

Marian Fricke is a German pianist, singer, composer and arranger. He began playing the piano at the age of five, initially with classical music. When he, like all the cool boys his age, wanted to go play football, his father deliberately played Queen records, subtly motivating him to learn their music. When Marian sang the songs in front of the class and accompanied himself on the piano, he received much admiration and realized that music could also be "cool." This motivated him to pursue music further, earning his bachelor's degree at the ArtEZ University of the Arts in Arnhem in 2023. Over the years, he dedicated himself to jazz, pop, funk, Latin, and blues, blending elements from all these styles into his playing.

He has performed multiple times for the Lions Club Wuppertal, as well as for the Westdeutsche Zeitung at the "Langer Tisch" in Wuppertal, Intervracht NL, and the former mayor of Wuppertal, Dr. Rolf Köster. He has also played at the Wuppertal Jazz Meeting, the Weinsommer Mettmann, Jazzschmiede Düsseldorf, Café Ada (Wuppertal), and the Live Club Barmen.

Additionally, he offers professional live music for weddings, dinners, and corporate events, both solo and in a duo with Janina & Martin from Samt & Sand.
Luca Loeb is a German bassist whose musical journey has taken him from the rock and metal scene to jazz, Latin, and pop. His education at the renowned ArtEZ University of the Arts in the Netherlands has shaped his style and artistic vision, which seeks a balance between intricate composition, spontaneous improvisation, and intense musical expression.

His concert titled Offerings marked a highlight of his career, featuring original compositions and interpretations of works by artists such as Tigran Hamasyan, Avishai Cohen, and the prog-metal band Tool—a testament to his versatility and musical depth.

During his studies, he performed with the German progressive post-rock band Der neue Planet, with whom he toured Europe and contributed to the production of the album Schwerkraft für Anfänger (Tonzonen Records). This experience, along with his long-standing involvement in the heavy metal scene, has shaped his rhythmic style, which listeners describe as lyrical, intense, and virtuosic.

Today, Luca Loeb brings this diverse musical experience to the Lýriska Trio, where, as the bassist, he creates a unique blend of jazz, rock, and pop music. Through complex rhythmic patterns, harmonic interplay, and his joy for spontaneous improvisation, he adds a distinctive dynamism to the trio's compositions.

Matthias Knorr is a drummer from Emmerich, Germany, and has been behind the drum set from a very early age. He started playing at just three years old and received professional training early on, which allowed him to develop across a wide range of musical styles.

He studied at the conservatory in Arnhem (NL) with René Creemers, Joop van Erven and André Groen. During that time, he was already active internationally, touring with the Youth Jazz Orchestra NRW between 2006 and 2010 across Europe and Asia.

Since graduating, Matthias has been working as a freelance musician and drum teacher, performing in a wide range of projects between jazz, pop and contemporary music. He has worked with ensembles such as the NDR Bigband, Tini Thomsen Max Sax, as well as projects like Smoking Wolf, Groovation, the Philipp Sauer Quartet and Trio G.M.C.

With years of experience on both national and international stages, Matthias combines precision with energy and a strong sense of musical interaction. In the Lýriska Trio, he brings this versatility and reliability to the group, shaping the sound with a clear and dynamic rhythmic voice.
